Catbird NYC

For years I have had a love for pretty little luxuries like jewelry. The little shimmer they have makes me smile and brings out the little girl in me.

While looking for a gift for myself for my 25th birthday I rediscovered a company that I hadn't had the pleasure of purchasing to date, Catbird NYC.

Their jewelry is unique, creative, and fun. Everything that could make me smile; my current favourite piece from them is the Holy Cannoli Charm in 14 karat solid ethically sourced gold with freshwater pearls on either end.

Their jewelry is created with conflict-free gold and diamonds, and often their diamonds are even recycled, (vintage diamonds purchased on another piece and given a second life in a new piece of jewelry). As some of you know my other favourite jewelry brand, Vale, uses ethically sourced gemstones and recycled gold as well so finding pieces that are ethical is important to me. My interest in Vale was what actually helped me to discover Catbird; while shopping at Violette Boutique, our local fine jewelry store, one of the owners told me about a company that they used to carry which turned out to be Catbird.

Catbird was actually the creator of the "ZAP" which is done in their "Welding Annex". They were later followed by other companies like Leah Alexandra who started their own "Spark Studio".

What is a "zap" or "spark" you might ask? It's a "forever bracelet", a piece of jewelry that is welded, or zapped together around your wrist. (Mind you these can be removed if you really want them to be.) They've become more popular as the years have passed and have become more customizable as well. I am personally hoping to get zapped in the near future, perhaps on a trip to NYC with Kieran as I love the idea of a piece that is always with you. If a piece has sentimental value I tend to wear it daily, like I do with my new Maleficent Ring from Catbird NYC that Kieran gifted me for my birthday.

The Maleficent Ring is subtle yet elegant, a single black diamond flanked by two white rose cut white diamonds. Classic Disney movies such as Sleeping Beauty were a large part of my childhood, and I felt more appreciation for this piece recognizing it with that bit of darkness like Maleficent. (I know it sounds cheesy, but if you know you know.) The name was certainly fitting, a huge part of what makes it so unique is the tapered claws that envelop the gems.

Alternatively if you love the Maleficent but are looking for more options, check out the following rings.

Sleeping Beauty Ring; Similar to the Maleficent but uses all white diamonds.

Odile the Swan; A larger version of the Maleficent.

Odile the Swan, Supreme; A larger version, with a partial pave band.

Mathilde the Swan; A larger version, but with pear cut white diamonds flanking the black diamond.

Of course there are many more breathtaking pieces from Catbird, we'd be here all day if I talked about each one. If you're on the market for a beautiful ring, you've found the place. The names say it all, these are the princesses and queens of rings.

Certainly will say, there's more Catbird products in my future... The quirky, fun and unique pieces are a great way to show your personality with style.
