Sometimes I wondered if those wedding traditions are cheesy... but other times I'm okay with it especially when it involves something sparkly and beautiful, specifically a pair of Manolo Blahnik Hangisi's.
Firstly, hoping that everyone had a lovely Christmas and got to spend some time with their loved ones! We're getting our first little bit of snow here in Victoria, having just started a couple of days ago.
Mum and I made a trip to Vancouver a couple of weeks ago and we made a stop in at Nordstrom (as per usual) since I wanted to try on some Manolo's just for size comparison as my current pair is a little tight and I had saved a couple of pairs to my wishlist online.
Once we walked through the doors to the store I made a b-line for the Manolo Blahnik section and started analyzing which pair would be best to try on, picking up a pair of the Lurum design (a mule with a crystallized strap across the top) and a pair of the Hangisi (one of the most iconic pairs of shoes in history) in a beautiful powder blue colour that was a new design for the season.
I had been eyeing a pair of mules in a beautiful light beige colour and kitten heel for a while on the Manolo Blahnik website, just to add to my collection but also as my potential "wedding shoe".
I am a big fan of his designs and the story behind how he got into creating some of the most stunning shoes in the world, and would love to add more of his pieces. I'm also not someone who wants to buy a pair of shoes for the wedding that I don't plan to wear again, it would feel really silly to me honestly to have a beautiful pair of shoes and not plan on wearing them! Shoes are kind of a favourite accessory for me as I learned from watching "In Her Shoes", while clothes may not always fit you your shoes will (mostly).
The Hangisi's were a little higher than I was hoping for (90mm) I decided to try them but was really concerned trying them on with the stockings because it felt like I was going to fall flat on my face... After trying them on again without the stockings I realized that it was both a matter of confidence and the fact that the stockings were not really right to be used in the shoes.
Without the stockings I felt like I could walk normally and that the shoes were actually quite comfortable. I thought about it as we sat there with the shoes on my feet, but in the end felt good about making the purchased since I had already saved for them and could pay the off right away. Really it was such a great feeling!
I've been stopping every now and then and looking at them happily in my cabinet in the closet and couldn't be happier with the purchase, really one of the first that I know I don't regret for the first time in ages.
While some might go for two dresses for the wedding I might be one for two pairs of shoes, one for walking around outdoors and one for wearing indoors.

PS did you know that Princess Diana used to wear Manolo Blahnik's designs? There is also a documentary about Manolo Blahnik himself that you can stream, it used to be on Netflix but now you can find it on YouTube.
Thanks for reading,
