Shop Local, volume 10: Bear & Joey

Located in Victoria at 1025 Cook Street.

Bear & Joey is a newer addition to the Victoria dining scene as of 2020, inspired by Sydney's Café culture. Serving breakfast sandwiches, salads, coffees and mimosas this café is not just a great place for your morning coffee but also a meeting place for friends and family.

My first visit to Bear & Joey was around May of 2020 with some of my friends from when I used to work at the museum. We'd all wanted to get together after the museum had shut down and agreed that Bear & Joey looked like a fantastic place to try, especially since their breakfast sandwiches with the red brioche bun and onion jam had caught our eye and it was a location that was convenient for all of us.

With a great location and both indoor and outdoor seating it was sure to be popular for both locals and tourists. The interior gave off a tropical and art deco vibe with the gold fixtures, cactus green dining chairs and pink and green wallpaper with palm leaves on it. With my background being in interior design I was in heaven.

The interior was designed by Ivan Meade and his team at Meade Design Group, a local Victoria Design Firm.

It's such a beautiful space that it would be hard to go inside and not take any photos! While the Café itself is 100% Instagram worthy, so is the food and the latte art served in their matching green mugs. Truly everything ties together in perfect harmony.

Bear & Joey is another location you will find Victoria's own Rook & Rose pieces for sale, an entire wall dedicated to these beautiful arrangements. I first fell in love with Rook & Rose arrangements while enjoying coffee on their patio with my Mum last spring. It was so hard to choose a bouquet and one of their staff was so sweet and actually helped me decide on which one to take home that day. It is one of my favourites out of my entire collection.

With such a stunning interior of course Bear & Joey offers event packages for Engagement Parties, Baby Showers, Birthdays and more, with the help of their event coordinator you can make your gathering picture perfect. Who wouldn't want to enjoy their Engagement party in such a great venue? I've seen many photos on their instagram of parties and wow, it's such a great place for them. If you're looking for a venue be sure to reach out to their coordinator and follow their instagram @bearandjoeycafe for more dreamy photos.

Since my first visit last year I've been back many times either for take out or dine in as living in downtown Victoria often you will have your go to places for coffee and brunch. Kieran, Mum and I went last weekend for Brunch to celebrate mom arriving home safely from her trip. Coffee and breakfast is a family tradition for us, we either pick up coffee on our morning walks or stop and have a coffee and some breakfast when we take Callaghan.

I reserved our table the night before just to be sure we would have a spot as often times Brunch is a busy in Victoria. Kieran and I ordered the Breakfast Sandwich (my go to) and Mum ordered the Avocado Toast with bacon and it looked truly amazing!

I’ve hear you mention B&J many times, so I must make the effort and experience it myself. Thanks for the reminder!
