For years my family has been going to The Village for our family breakfasts, the Estevan Village location was our favourite as we would walk down to Willows Beach and enjoy the views and the sand.
During the difficult times of COVID-19 many businesses have been forced to close. One morning while I was craving the eggs Benedict on a potato latke from the Village I was curious to see if they were doing delivery and instead found out that they had switched their operations to delivering grocery boxes under the name The V-Unit.
With different kinds of groceries to chose from, bagels, eggs, necessities like toilet paper to cocktail kits they have options to fit everyone's needs. They even have cocktail kits like; Moscow Mule kit, Village Mimosa kit, Bad and Boujee Mimosa kit, and more!
They recently added a Sponsor Box where the groceries included will be sent to one of their nominated nurses or health care workers or you can include the name and address of a nurse or health care worker you know and would like to see receive the box.
On March 22nd they came up with the idea for The V-Unit, and on March 24th they completed their first essential grocery and liquor drive through and delivery, that day they also serviced 56 households.
The effort and time that they have put into this idea and keeping it going shows how much they care about their community and their customers and they deserve to be recognized for the work they have done.
This is a great way for those who are immunocompromised, or do not feel comfortable leaving their homes to get groceries to get what they need.
This is just the beginning of something amazing. The V-Unit has raised thousands of dollars for The Mustard Seed, started their "sponsor a nurse/ health care worker" and they have delivered to near a thousand homes, and the numbers are going to continue rising with a growing demand for the services they offer.
It is worth mentioning that May 2020, The Village will be coming back! Keep an eye out on their website and Instagram at either @village.hq or vunit.ca for updates.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more local businesses next week! Anyone you want to have featured? Comment down below!
P.S. I don't have many photos from the grocery boxes because we dove right in and devoured the bagels and lox salmon.
