Shop local, volume 7: Fol Epi Bakery & Patisserie

Since my family moved to Victoria in 2007 we tended to visit more of the local businesses over the big chains. My parents felt that it was important to teach us how important local businesses were. Fol Epi is one of the places we started visiting shortly after moving to Victoria. Obviously we keep coming back, and it's because everything about Fol Epi is amazing.

My mom and I used to wander over and pick up a croissant and a cappuccino during our mother daughter time, my last memory of us eating in was the day before she left for Hungary last March.

Shortly after Covid hit and a lot of the grocery stores were out of several of the necessities like milk, eggs, and flour Fol Epi started carrying these items in store to sell. This was really great for a lot of people who were unable to go into the grocery stores as they were doing local delivery as well. I feel like they were one of the businesses that paved the way for the grocery boxes at the very beginning.

As some of you may know, quite a few places were unable to do dine-in service for some time now and were doing pick up only. Since moving downtown we have started stopping in to pick up little goodies from Fol Epi more and more, and I hope to visit soon to dine in, as they have recently reopened for dine-in service with limited seating.

Recently on our little grocery hauls; Chicken Liver Pate (such a good pre dinner snack or for a Charcuterie Board lunch), Baguette (their fresh bread is great with anything and everything like, butter, pate, or antipasto), Palmier (these are one of my favourite things to get from Fol Epi), House made Kimchi (which I bought for Kieran), and of course a few more things! It's hard to leave without getting a bag full of goodies.

Their pastries are one of my favourites so typically I will pick up little sweets from them, (especially the Raspberry Mousse Cake), for special occasions like birthdays, Christmas, or new years. I picked up their new Apricot Mousse Cake for this post but to Kieran's dismay it didn't make it home, but I can assure you it tasted amazing.

If you're looking for a good croissant, or a delicious one of a kind ham and kimchi sandwich on their house made bread this is the place for you.

With lots to offer they are also home to Agrius, which is a brunch and dinner place which uses organic ingredients, and is farm to table. Now I have only been for brunch on one occasion pre-covid with my friend Marina but it was phenomenal. It was great that they had vegetarian options for Marina and my favourite thing, Eggs Benny for me. (Looking forward to taking Kieran their for Brunch in the future!)

I feel that they have something for everyone, it's tasty and it looks good... You know I love the visuals of things so even if looking good doesn't make it taste better to me it still makes it that much more amazing. The way that their cakes look is enough to draw you in off the street.

Go and check them out @ 732 Yates Street, (their downtown location), 398 Harbour Road, (their Dockside location), and keep up to date with their incoming goodies through their Instagram!

Have you already visited Fol Epi or Agrius? If so what's your favourite thing to get?
