With my pursuit of a more relaxing day to day life, I've been exploring the world of slow living and self-care.
It's so important to take time for ourselves in this busy world we live in; it helps with our mental health and minimizing the chances of burn out.
One of my favourite things is lying down in the tub with a glass of wine and my favourite movie playing on my iPad. But the sad thing is I rarely have time for this, or I literally just can't prioritize my self care rituals.
Since focusing on self-care more I've found a few products and habits I've really come to love. Here are my Essentials for Relaxing.
Slow Living Products
OUAI Scalp & Body Scrub - A must have for a soak in the tub, it will leave your skin and scalp feeling like heaven. I primarily use this on my skin.
Slip Silk Pillowcase - I will never stop raving about this pillowcase, truly amazing for a snooze like royalty. (I do personally prefer the zip closure ones, over the envelope). It is the most luxurious addition to our bed, and I will happily buy more!
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber De-Tox Hydra Gel Eye Patches - These eye patches are the perfect pick me up for a night after a not-so great sleep, or for that little bit of pep in your step in the morning.
Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic Masque - This is the perfect overnight mask if you are someone, who like me, has problem skin with acne. The cooling sensation makes it that little bit more refreshing.
Fresh Sugar Lip Balm (Clear) - This lip balm, while on the more expensive side compared to your average chapstick (so worth every penny though) is perfect for hydration for days. In the spring I tend to get very dry lips and this is my saviour.
Slow Living Rituals
Lighting a candle, specifically my Poetry of the Gods - Hygge Kashmir, (it smells like comfort in a jar and I literally can't get enough of it!)
Writing in my Five Minute Journal, every morning and every night. I've been doing this since probably the summer, and while I've missed a couple days here and there I find it really grounding to write down my goals, highlights and more for the day.
Going for a walk; this is one of my favourite things to do right now. Not only because I need to hit my 12k steps a day, but because I love getting out and breathing the fresh air. As someone who works from home, I am literally a hermit (as I've said many times) and I struggle to get out of the house this is such a liberating thing and one of the high points of my day.
Getting a Facial at Bernstein & Gold's Eminence Day Spa with Jamie is my true zen. I leave the treatment feeling like a million bucks, and all of my worries of the day have faded. (If you're a Vancouver Island Local, I highly suggest booking in to see Jamie, she is such a wonderful soul and does the best facials.) - Pro Tip: go for the 90 minute treatment, you won't regret it!
Taking a bath, with candles is one of my top Slow Living Rituals. While I would normally pair this with a glass of wine, right now I'm pairing it with lemon water (because hydration is key). Personally I can't stay in a tub for too long without falling asleep so I'm in for a max of 30 minutes.
What are your favourite items and rituals for relaxing at the end of a long day? I'd love to know!
