There are so many benefits to buying preloved goods, including reducing waste, fewer carbon emissions and many other environmental benefits. Below is the story of the item that grew my love of fashion and preloved goods.
December before last I tried on a beautiful pair of Prada boots, I was in love with them but based on someone else's opinion I didn't get them. I thought about the boots on numerous occasions including the interview for my current job and how good I thought they would have looked with my interview outfit.
A couple weeks later while spending some time in Oak Bay I stopped in at House of Savoy, (one of my favourite consignment stores where I have found so many of my lovely goodies). As soon as I went in I looked for the boots but couldn't find them, and instead found myself a Lady Dior watch which was quite a bargain due to the fact that there was a chance it might not have worked again, (in the end after some new batteries and mechanical repairs it works again!) Leaving the store I turned to my left and there were the boots, I was so happy and tried them on to show my mum, and of course you know I bought those boots that day.
Having been preloved they were a fraction of the price that they would have been brand new, however there was a decent amount of wear but even still they are my favourite pair of shoes. Someone had given them up for whatever reason and they found a new home with me. And I couldn't be happier that I found them!
Those are some of the best things about buying preloved designer goods; you get the chance to love an item that has been passed on by someone else to be loved by you, you pay a fraction of the price, (depending on the rarity of the item, some can be more preloved than new), and you may also have the chance to find something that is not available anymore.
If you feel like you are overwhelmed by the amount of clothing, shoes, bags, or accessories that you own or your style has changed you can donate, or take items to consignment stores. That way you are paving the way for them to be loved by someone else!
