Why it's important to invest in elevated basics

Often times we forget about the basics, and think we can just buy any regular $10 t-shirt and it will do the trick. But how wrong we are.

It's so important to invest in good, quality and long lasting basics. Not just for our own financial benefit of not having to replace these pieces frequently but having a smaller footprint with regards to pieces we get rid of because they've torn or aren't our style after 2 months.

Even buying a simple white t-shirt should be thoroughly thought through, there are so many things that might make it the wrong t-shirt.

Think of pieces that not only will last you longer because they're better quality but that are sustainably made, whether its responsibly sourced materials or organic cotton.

What makes a great basic? Here's a few things to keep in mind when investing in your basics:

  1. Is it something you can envision at least 10 outfits with in each season?

  2. Is it something that you can wear with nearly every colour?

  3. Is it something you think you could wear for years to come?

  4. Is it something you could look after with ease?

There are many brands now working on a more sustainable approach to fashion and trying to push out fast fashion and the landfills of clothing that takes hundreds if not thousands of years to decompose.

Fast fashion has long since been a force on the fore-front of the industry, and they make millions on people who can't afford the more expensive pieces and instead of going for the "splurges" go for the "steals" in an effort to save more money when in the end they'll end up spending the same amount on replacing said items.

Honestly investing in those elevated basics can truly get you pieces that last... a lifetime.

What makes an "elevated" basic over any regular basic? Great question! An elevated basic is exactly what it sounds like, a basic with a little something extra. In terms of examples I've listed a few that I'm loving down below.

Now why do I love this piece? It's a corset style sweater but not only is it an elevated basic it's also made with responsibly sourced wood-based fibres. It's a simple, stunning and form fitting piece than can literally be worn through all the seasons, on its own or as a layering piece.

With the vast range of colours it isn't a bad idea to own more than one of a piece especially if you feel it will be something you rotate through regularly.

This piece, while there is the potential of it being a great basic the colour options have the option of it being an elevated basic with a little pop of colour with the Herbage Green or a bright addition with the crisp white.

This piece is also sustainable and made with recycled materials which is a wonderful bonus.

While this one is not made with sustainable materials it certainly is an elevated basic. A polo is a great addition to any wardrobe but with a twist of making it a crop top with a beautiful form fitting knit.

These are a great piece and beloved by many out there, the shape is perfect as well as the fact that they are Vegan Leather.

These perfect pants are wonderful with various outfits from a night out with the girls to dressing up for a work event.

The Woden sneakers are a great addition to your shoe closet, not your typical everyday tennis shoes but a sustainable version with a soft cork sole and the backing consists of a minimum of 50% recycled polyester from PET bottles.

Comfort and style mixed into one.
